The Workshops at the Studio on Washington

I am so excited to announce the beginning of a new venture for the Studio on Washington! I share a studio in downtown Goshen with two other friends and local photographers, Shalmai with Traci. Our vision is to host a series of workshops in our studio space that will be taught by local artisans and craftsman who are passionate about sharing their talents. I love the idea of bringing a group of women together that want to be creative and learn and that is exactly what we aim to accomplish by hosting these classes!  Classes will be small and intimate, and the goal is to walk away with a new skill and a greater appreciation for creating beautiful things with our own hands.

The first workshop is going to be all about soap making! I first met Birgit of Simply Birgit last year at an artisan fair and I fell in love with her all-natural body care products. They are good for you and the environment and they smell amazing and leave your skin feeling wonderful! I knew that she had to be the first person I contacted to teach our very first workshop and I know we will walk away with so much knowledge (and soap!).  We’ve timed it perfectly so that the soap you go home with will be ready in time to give as gifts for Christmas, perfect to use as stocking stuffers!

Here is the class information:

Date:  Saturday, October 26th, 2013
Location:  The Studio on Washington, 118-2 East Washington Street, Goshen, IN 46526
Time:  1PM-approximately 4PM
Cost:  $50 per person

Peppermint Patty Soap Workshop

In this introductory workshop you’ll learn about the beautiful art of soap making, a little soapy history and how to incorporate fun ingredients, like peppermint and chocolate.
We will discuss soap chemistry, the process to make a cold process soap, safety procedures and the difference between fabulous hand crafted soap and and not-so-fabulous-soap you may find at a store.
You will take home five bars of handcrafted soap, to use for yourself or to give as a beautiful, unique gift.  Please wear a long sleeve shirt, pants and closed toe shoes.

Birgit Biehl, founder and creative spirit of Simply Birgit devotes her time creating luxurious, plant based skin care. Her philosophy is based on sustainably grown, organic, fairly traded ingredients topped off with pure synergistic essential oils all while taking in account the wellness of the earth. When not in her workshop she can be found hiking in the dunes.

Class size will be limited to the first ten people, email me at to reserve your spot.  Reservations will be secured through Paypal.  I would love for you to join us for a day of learning, soap-making and fun!
